Roof Framing Plans for a House Addition

Roof Framing Plans for a House Addition

Project Description:

Objective: To design a roof framing plan for a new room addition measuring 12 feet by 17 feet, located at the junction of two existing gabled roofs with a 5:12 pitch. The design will adhere to the national building code and integrate seamlessly with the current structure, as detailed in the original construction drawings. The new addition has been preliminarily designed using SketchUp.

Requirements:

  • Develop roof framing elements that comply with the national building code.
  • Utilize the existing construction plans for reference.
  • Provide detailed labeling of lumber sizes and cut angles necessary for construction.
  • An engineering stamp is not required, as the framing will be self-executed without permits.
  • The design should be compatible with SketchUp, allowing for exportation to or modification within the original SketchUp file.
  • Employ dimensional lumber for framing, avoiding the use of laminate beams where possible.
  • The current roofing material is asphalt shingles, which will be replaced with a standing seam metal roof on the new addition.
  • The slope of the new roof should range between 1.5/12 and 2/12 to ensure proper drainage and aesthetic alignment with the existing structure.

This project will be executed with precision and personal craftsmanship, reflecting both functional and aesthetic considerations in the design.
